Cancun International ranked best airport in Latin America and the Caribbean

It is official – the Airports Council International (ACI)  announced Cancun International Airport as the best airport in Latin America and the Caribbean for the fourth consecutive year, according to the annual ACI Airport Service Quality (ASQ) passenger survey.

ASQ is an industry wide monitor of airport services, and is considered by many as the benchmark in ranking user experience worldwide.

Cancun InternationalSo what does this all mean to you?  Well, since Playa del Carmen is a mere 40 min from Cancun International, this is the main airport that you will be flying into when you come to our fair city.  Whether you are visiting us for a week, or have finally decided to book your one way ticket and move here permanently, chances are good that you will be going thought Cancun.

Having flown out of and into Cancun multiple times since 2004, I can assure you that they have put a significant amount of effort into improving the passenger experience.   Three terminals and a nice flow through Customs and Immigration have improved significantly in the last 10 years and now the process is about as seamless as it gets when flying internationally.

As the gateway to the Riviera Maya and it’s myriad of desirable vacation destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum, this airport has seen significant traffic increases year to year – nearly 10% on average – and is the busiest airport in the entire area.  This fact alone makes it all the more impressive that they have been able to achieve and maintain such a high level of customer satisfaction.

If it’s you’re an American and it’s your first time traveling to the region, don’t stress.  Everything will go smoothly.  With the large majority of the staff being bilingual, you can be assured that your lack of Spanish won’t cause any difficulties.  Everyone is eager to help and they know Cancun airport 2that it can be intimidating if it’s your first time in a foreign country.  If you’re a veteran traveler to the Riviera Maya, then you know how friendly the Mexican people really are.

After you land at the airport, the whole world of the Mayan Riviera opens up to you and the endless opportunities to explore and get to know the region, the culture and the people.
