Cancun, Riviera Maya could see tourism reopen by June 10

With the reactivation of construction, manufacturing and agriculture for June 1, the governor of Quintana Roo says tourism for the state could see a reopening between June 8 and 10.

In a public address, Carlos Joaquin said that tourism is an essential activity for the state and that the government will fight for it, noting that between June 8 and 10, tourists could be received and nearly 80,000 jobs gradually recovered.

By updating the information on the actions and activities that are developed around the health emergency and the preparations to return to economic activities in the new normal, the governor explained that it is essential that we start gradually with the opening of tourism.

Carlos Joaquín stressed that with hoteliers and service providers, employees would begin work internally from June 1 and between 8 and 10 of the same month to receive tourists. He stressed that for this to happen, protocols and hygiene measures must be followed to care for workers and tourists, since the tourism sector will allow the recovery of the more than 80,000 jobs that were lost and the possibility of economic recovery.

He explained that through a certification platform, more than 1,983 companies have registered, 1,651 have complied and 332 are still in validation, which represents an expressed interest of the sector to comply with the measures and protocols of safety and hygiene.

He announced that according to a survey by Expedia, Cancun flights is one of the five most searched for, while Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Isla Mujeres are the three most internationally sought after destinations.
