So… What are the top 5 beaches in Playa del Carmen?

Playa del Carmen is a beach town, no doubt about it.  That is main reason that people come to Playa del Carmen – and the Riviera Maya in general – is to enjoy the incredible weather and the amazing white sand beaches.

I’ve lived here about 2 years and spent a considerable amount of time investigating this topic.  I am by no means an expert…   well, come to think of it, I just might might be a beach expert by now.  😉

So without further ado, let’s get started!

Top 5 beaches in Playa del Carmen

In no particular order, here are my picks for the top beaches in Playa.

  1. Mamitas Beach Playa del Carmen
    Mamitas

Mamitas Beach and Beach Club – Probably my personal favorite my place to head for weekends, Mamitas Beach Club is the spot to head to if you’re looking for some action.  If you’re looking for an empty beach to relax on and enjoy peace and quiet, just go ahead and skip Mamitas.

  2. Xpu-ha beach
    Xpu Ha beach

Xpu-Ha Beach – A little bit outside of Playa del Carmen but well worth the 20 min drive.  Quiet, serene and impossibly beautiful.  They were actually filming a Corona commercial at this beach one time while I was there.  It’s that damn gorgeous.

  3. Playacar beach lounges
    Playacar Phase 1 beach

Playacar Phase 1 – One of the widest and most beautiful beaches in all of Playa del Carmen, the beach at Playacar Phase 1  is a little difficult to get to since it is behind a guard gated residential community but you can actually just walk down from the beach just north of Playacar.  And it’s well worth it – not crowded and spacious, it’s one of my favorite chill spots in Playa.

  4. Wah Wah beach bar
    Wah Wah’s beach

Wah Wah’s Beach and Beach Club – A great stretch of beach in front of Wah Wah’s Beach Bar, this caters to the gringo set with live music playing a variety of tunes, mostly from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.  Free beach chairs and great food make this a nice place to hang out and drink a couple cheladas in the afternoon.

  5. canibal royal beach club
    Canibal Royal Beach

Canibal Royal Beach and Club – a little more secluded and off the main drag, this beaches main attraction is just that – off the beaten path so it’s usually never crowded.  A great place to relax with friends and enjoy a lazy day playing in the water or laying on the stunning white sand.  A great beach that is a little unknown and absolutely worth checking out.

This video will break down everything you need to know about the top 5 beaches in Playa.. .  Enjoy!
