Looking for a great Sunday brunch in Playa del Carmen? Look no further!!
I love going to brunch on Sundays… Obviously brunch is later than breakfast and I hate getting up early, especially on Sundays. I also truly love a good quality, upscale brunch with a varied menu and a relaxing atmosphere. The new Sunday brunch at Koba – the Mayakoba golf course club house – fit the bill perfectly.
Sunday Brunch in Playa del Carmen – on the golf course
First of all, it is situated directly on the golf course and the views are downright spectacular. The restaurant itself is finished in a very low key, elegant manner that blends perfectly with the natural setting of the golf course and jungle. The floor to ceiling windows provide a natural lighting and seamlessly combine the understated beauty of the interior with the magnificent views of the fairway cutting through the rainforest.
One of the first things I noted after I got a feel for the place, was the attentiveness of the staff. Unobtrusive but always present and very pleasant – fluent in both Spanish and English – which is a big deal for many tourists or people that visit who don’t speak Spanish. My coffee was always full and they explained the menu and specials perfectly. There is a wide variety of foods available, both from the menu and from an elegant buffet style featuring many standard fares as well as many very unique takes on local dishes.
The Food and Beverage Director, Pedro, took time away from his duties to explain to us some the more creative choices, as well as the overall concept of the club and the brunch itself. Personally, I appreciate this kind of individual attention and it really adds to the experience.
The relaxed atmosphere was reflected by the presence of a pool table for the patrons, as well as a large TV that allowed the gringos dining there to keep their eye on the action of the NFL preseason game. Both were nice touches that didn’t intrude on the dining experience and will be appreciated by the Americans that decide to stop in.
I’ll definitely be back…
This is one of those places in Playa del Carmen that I will be frequenting quite often. It was a great mix of relaxed upscale dining with amazing food and incredible service. I really would expect nothing less of a property in MayaKoba but you never really know for sure until you experience it for yourself.
So… if you’re in town for a visit (or if you live here), and looking for an amazing Sunday brunch in Playa del Carmen, this is the best place that I have found. It really puts it all together and is a great, relaxing way to start a Sunday and figure out what your plans are for the rest of the day.
