Of course this is a lucrative source of income for many hotels and resorts that offer these Mayan ceremonies as part of their services. They also offer Catholic, Hindu, Protestant or Jewish rites. Venues range from gazebos on the beach to cobblestone pathways, cozy churches and amazing gardens.
According to the Convention and Visitors Bureau, more than 18,000 foreign couples have wed during this year in the state of Quintana Roo Last year the number was 15,000.
Revenue from weddings in Quintana Roo this year totals close to $35 million USD. Most resorts have a wedding team of specialists to plan each ceremony, handle the paperwork and all the minute details.
The bride and groom can opt to have a big party, inviting family and friends or just a private ceremony for two. The Mayan ceremony is usually conducted in the Mayan language on the beach with drums beating while a conch-shell horn signals the ritual. The Mayan Shaman seals the union between the bridal couple by strewing flower petals across the waves.
Some of these wedding packages include two nights in a luxury villa with a private plunge pool, the ceremony and a private celebration dinner with torches and music served on the pier for two, prices range between $1,500 and $2,000
